Women Only Cars

women-only cars in tokyo
This is a sign on a Japanese rail platform at boarding point for women-only cars.
From a year of 2005, the many subways and rail companies started to introduce a service, (although this type of the service existed for more than half century in a different form.) Women Only Passenger Cars, which is intended for women passengers only.

This is not legally mandated, but expects the cooperation from male passengers. The reason behind this service, was to respond to the increasing complaints that women passengers were often subject to be groped in public packed like a sardines car in commuting rush hours.

Gentlemen, you are free to get on that car all you like, at least legal point of view, but we cannot promise you that it will be the most pleasant journeys.
