kosoan jiyugaoka

Have a cup of Japanese tea in the 100 years old wooden house!

kosoan jiyugaoka2Kosoan is a peaceful and relaxing Japanese old house cafe located in Jiyugaoka, Meguro ward, Tokyo.

There are many old Japanese style cafes everywhere in Tokyo, in department store, in commercial building at a station and in multiple-tenant building, however many of them are “pseudo- old Japanese style” cafe as they are newly built ones.

As Kosoan was used to a residence in early 1990’s, Japanese antique interior in the cafe was actually used by the resident for a long time.

Japanese dolls, paintings and objets d’art are collected by the owner of the cafe. (Also there is a small shops in the cafe where you can buy a little items)

You can easily picture the life of old times being immersed in a nostalgic atmosphere which you never have in the cafe located at commercial building.

The Japanese garden where you can see sitting on tatami mat is worth seeing.

Small ponds, stepping stones, garden lantern and seasonal flowers and trees are placed beautifully in small garden.

They provide variety of Japanese sweets, such as anmitsu (Japanese parfait) , tokoroten (gelidium jelly), kakigori (shaved ice). English menu is available.

You can access to Kosoan within 5 minutes walk from Jiyugaoka station (Tokyu Toyoko Line or Tokyu Oimachi Line)
