After 1 minute’ walk from Ikebukuro station, there is a Okonomiyaki restaurant called “Kamontei”. Okonomiyaki is a savoury pancake with meat or seafood and vegetables, and put thick and sweet Okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise on it, especially popular in Osaka.

At this restaurant, you can eat Okonomiyaki of Kobe style, “Nagata-yaki”. While most standard Okonomiyaki you can eat in Tokyo has soft, fluffy texture, the Okonomiyaki in this restaurant is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. There are several combinations which ingredients to mix in the Okonomiyaki dough, and one of the popular menu is “pork and cheese”.

The restaurant’s specialty is “Dashi Okonomiyaki” which you eat the crispy Okonomiyaki by dipping into the “dashi” (bonito and kombu kelp broth) instead of putting sauce on it. The Okonomiyaki and the dashi which has light taste but nice aroma of bonito and kombu kelp will mix together to create a wonderful harmony. This “Dashi Okonomiyaki” is introduced on TV, and many people visit to taste the dashi of high-quality and the original Kobe style Okonomiyaki. There are also Okonomiyaki of Hiroshima style and other standard menus.

Besides Okonomiyaki, there are seafood or vegetables to grill with the iron griddle in front of you, such as Japanese scallop, asparagus and bacon, crispy baked potato with cheese, and more. Cooking with your friends is one of the amusement at Okonomiyaki restaurants, and you can eat the food at your best timing.

They have beer which especially goes well with Okonomiyaki, and other alcohol drinks and soft drinks as well. You can see some people drinking beer even in lunch time, but the nice smell of the crispy Okonomiyaki and the sauce will lead you to drink beer!!
