Rice has been the staple food of Japan, and therefore so many kinds of rice brands exist today. Although there are many restaurants which select high-quality vegetables, meat and fish to create the delicious dishes, we believe there are not so many restaurants which really care about the rice itself.

However, there is one Japanese restaurant in Ginza called “Hachidaime Gihey” which really serves rice of the highest quality. You can reach there within 1 minute from Ginza station, and is open at lunch time and dinner time except Wednesdays.

The main store of “Hachidaime Gihey” is in Kyoto, and you can eat the best rice with local food of Kyoto at Ginza. The rice is cooked with the earthen pot which makes the rice sweet, and each grain of rice is plump and shiny.

At lunch time, they only serve rice which is cooked within 10 minutes, so you can always eat the freshly cooked rice. In addition, you can have another helping and eat the delicious rice as much as you want!! You can also enjoy the fragrant scorched rice in the second helping. There are many kinds of lunch menus such as set meal of tempura, sashimi or mackerel simmered in miso.

At dinner time, you can select out of 2 courses which consist of 10 dishes all relating to rice. The menu changes every month to include the dishes using ingredients of the best season.

One thing which is unique is that they serve original “rice wine” and “rice sparkling wine” which they created. They both have the smooth, fruity taste which remind you of real wine and sparkling wine, and you can feel the difference between the typical Japanese sake. There are also Japanese sake from Kyoto, Japanese tea selected to match with rice, and other drinks.
