Tokyo Bay Taika Fire Festival

In other countries, you can see fireworks at special events, like Independence Day or New Year’s. One of the unique things about Japanese fireworks festivals is that their sole purpose is the appreciation of fireworks. They are fireworks for fireworks’ sake. And these displays last about two hours in Japan, compared with half that or less in other countries. Also, Japanese pyrotechnicians are highly skilled.

In Japan, there are more than 1,000 fireworks festivals in Summer. And there are some famous ones in Tokyo like the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, Tokyo Bay Fireworks Festival, Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival and others. All told, more than 10,000 fireworks are launched at those festivals.

If you come to Tokyo in Summer, I highly recommend you check the schedule for those fireworks festivals and enjoy one of these spectacular shows alongside regular Japanese people.

Tokyo bay fireworks’ festival is normally held on 2nd Saturday or Sunday in August, with 12000 fireworks.
