The Empire Theater

The Empire Theater is one of the most famous theaters with the longest history in Japan. It is located in Marunouchi 3cho-me Chiyoda-ward.  It is known for the popular name of “Teigeki”, and the first Japanese Western expression drama theater. In those days they invited Italian musicians to stage opera, bullet and so on. At times, Kabuki and Shakespeare drama are staged. They have made the fashion of the drama of Japan. Even now they have been staging drama of 10 stage performances in one year in this theater.


Such historic building with rich feeling is recommended if you want to appreciate drama. There are a lot of famous classy restaurants including those in Imperial Hotel near the Empire Theater. If you get a ticket, how about doing a dress-up and going for drama viewing ?

    The oldest theater in Japan looks cool. It’s interesting that you can see kabiki and opera at the same place at the same day.

    I’ve heard of teiloku gekijo. Never known its a name of oldest theater.
